EHMA 2019 Annual Conference – Health Management 2.0

espoo

The 17th to the 19th of June, the annual conference of EHMA will take place in Espoo in Finland. EHMA, short for European Health Management Association, is a non-profit organisation which works towards strengthening the capacity and capabilities of health management, in order to deliver a higher quality healthcare in Europe. The EHMA 2019 annual conference is this year hosted by Helsinki University Hospital (HUS) and the National Institute for Health and Welfare.

The conference goes under the theme of ‘Health Management 2.0’ and aims to address skills and competencies needed by current and future Healthcare leaders to enhance and achieve a higher quality of health management. This will be the largest ever Conference of EHMA, bringing together educators, researchers, managers and health professionals from Europe and beyond. Participants have the opportunity to share ideas and effective practices with a wide range of actors.

Sessions organised by the Nordic Centre for Sustainable Healthcare

Following sessions are part of the sustainability track and organised by NCSH.

5:00pm - 6:30pm, Jun 17
Climate and energy smart healthcare - Johannes Brundin, Irina Lindquist, Jani Valkama
Climate change is one of the greatest environmental challenges faced by societies today and action must be taken from a wide range of sectors – healthcare being no exception. In some countries as much as 15% of the carbon emissions come from health services and finding ways to reduce these emissions can therefore make a large impact. This session will focus on solutions and work procedures that can be implemented to improve energy efficiency and reduce climate gas emissions from healthcare activities. Experts will give their view on how climate and energy smart solutions for the healthcare sector can be used to create a more sustainable society.

3:45pm - 5:15pm, Jun 18
Implementing circular economy in healthcare - Daniel Eriksson, Elena Prokofyeva, Lieke van Kerkhoven, Virpi Vuori
Moving away from a linear ‘take-make-use-dispose’ economic model to a more circular use of resources requires not only retaining value in products by designing for disassembly, reparability, recoverability etc. or creating new business models, but it also requires a new mindset in organisations implementing these products and services. To reach a circular model in healthcare services, behavioural change is vital. We need to talk about how we get our colleagues and managers to act in a more conscious manner and procure products or services with more than just monetary value in mind. This session will involve experts from different backgrounds and fields discussing how to implement circular economy in healthcare from a behavioral point of view.
