Study tour at Södersjukhuset

Last week, NCSH arranged a study tour at Södersjukhuset in Stockholm. Together with some of our network members, we got a guided tour of the new hospital building and the kitchen where they cook food for the entire hospital.

The day began with a presentation of the hospital by Birgitta Westin, Environmental coordinator at Södersjukhuset. Among other things, she told us about the environmental work at SÖS  and that they have been environmentally certified since 2001. After that, Petra Hansson from Locum told us a bit about Sweden Green Buildings, the certification system for sustainable buildings in the field of energy, material and indoor environment. Each indicator gets a grade of silver, bronze or gold. The hospital currently has three buildings that have received preliminary gold certifications. Building 72 also won the award “The environmental building of the year” in 2018.

Later, Johannes Brundin from NCSH held a presentation about Nordic Center for Sustainable Healthcare and our work. After that, four companies got to hold quick presentations about their organisations and what solutions they are working on. First one out was Thomas Göransson from Energy machines. Thomas told us, among other things, about their heat pump system and how you can find ways to minimize the energy use. After that, William Andersson from Schneider Electric held a short presentation about global trends within health and healthcare. He also told us a bit about ecostructure and their electricity quality overview – a way to monitor electricity quality and increase the reliability of the electrical system and equipment.

Then it was time for Daniel Binett and Ludvig Rydén, from Ozonetech, to talk about their work with water purification and air purification with the help of ozone that oxidizes fat. They also told us that you can use ozone water to disinfect equipment.

The last one out before lunch was Thomas Lindborg from Lindinvent. They have been working with protective ventilation since 1995 and work on providing buildings with a productive indoor climate.

After lunch, we got the chance to have a guided tour around the hospital kitchen and also the new  surgical ward. During the spring 2018, a new meal concept was implemented for lunch and dinner meals at the hospital. The meals are prepared from scratch by high quality ingredients in the hospitals own newly built cookingkitchen.

Thank you Birgitta Westin and Södersjukhuset for an interesting day!
