From Evidence to Action: Advancing Sustainable Healthcare through Measurement, Digital Innovation and Implementation, Insights from Three Horizon Europe Projects
A joint side event by the Horizon projects KitNewCare, NetZeroAICT and CARING NATURE

Healthcare systems across Europe face growing pressure to cut their environmental footprint without compromising care. But how do we move from ambition and evidence to real change on the ground?

This interactive side event brings together three EU Horizon sister projects, each tackling the challenge from a different angle: KitNewCare on measurement and benchmarking, using 4-factor life-cycle assessment to capture health, cost, social and environmental impacts; NetZeroAICT on digital innovation, exploring how AI-enabled pathway change can reduce resource-intensive clinical processes while safeguarding trust and safety; and CARING NATURE on operational change, with practical hospital-level solutions spanning food waste treatment, participatory staff engagement, telemedicine and energy optimisation.

Date: 30 September 2026
Time: 09:00–13:00 CET
Location: Malmö Arena Hotel

Rather than three standalone project updates, the session is built around shared learning: what can measurement, digital innovation and operational change teach each other? Through three themed sessions and a facilitated panel discussion, participants will help identify common barriers, implementation conditions and transferable lessons - and shape a joint briefing note capturing practical implications for healthcare providers, policymakers and industry.

Join us to collaboratively explore how we can build the evidence and implementation approaches needed for the green transition in healthcare, and identify what it takes to move sustainable healthcare evidence into practice.

Duration: 4 hours (including break) | Format: presentations, cross-project exchange and structured discussion. Refreshments provided.
