On June 28th and 29th, NCSH met in Bologna with other Nordic and Italian actors to discuss collaborative opportunities for sustainable healthcare
This conference has now been featured on Clust-ER Health's website, where they have published a detailed article about the two days (and their future possibilities) in the Emilia-Romagna region. They accurately describe the issue of forming and boosting a sustainable healthcare as an "urgent" one, and continue with:
The sustainability of the health sector is becoming a theme of priority importance, to be addressed with the same importance that is dedicated to the other sectors of our daily lives that we are already used to perceiving as problematic in terms of emissions, waste and environmental impact in general.
In the words of Felicia Hedetoft, contact person for the Nordic Center for Sustainable Healthcare, “it is unlikely that the simple reaction to the disruption is a sustainable strategy for the future. The World Health Organization has made the discouraging estimate that 5-15% of global carbon emissions come from health services in developed countries. Establishing a culture of sustainability and eco-efficiency among global health infrastructures is critical in the fight against climate change.”
We hope, therefore, that this event marks the beginning of a fruitful collaboration on a theme of crucial importance and that it will produce an involvement of all those actors engaged in innovation in the health sector.
