General Hospital Zadar
General Hospital Zadar is a public healthcare institution on Croatia’s Adriatic coast, providing hospital and specialist healthcare as well as teaching and research activities. The hospital serves the population of Zadar County, including its island communities, while its role expands significantly during the tourist season.
With approximately 1,600 employees and a hospital campus covering around 55,000 m², General Hospital Zadar is currently undergoing an intensive period of investment, modernisation and organisational transformation.
Sustainability is an important part of the hospital’s strategic development. Our approach combines improved accessibility and quality of healthcare with energy efficiency, digitalisation, responsible use of resources and the development of more resilient models of care. The hospital is implementing major energy-renovation projects, renewable-energy initiatives and digital solutions aimed at improving clinical processes and resource management.
Current projects and initiatives include digital pathology, unit-dose medication distribution, centralised preparation of parenteral medicines and international projects such as DIGIHEALTH and PATODIGITAL. The hospital is also developing a new Centre for Simulation, Innovation and Advanced Diagnostics, bringing together advanced diagnostics, research, education, simulation and innovative healthcare technologies.
In parallel, General Hospital Zadar is exploring new models of healthcare delivery, including the use of drones for transporting medicines, blood samples and diagnostic specimens between the hospital and Croatian islands.
Our goal is to build a healthcare system that is more accessible, efficient, resilient and sustainable, while continuously improving the quality of care for patients.
