The Nordic Center for Sustainable Healthcare (NCSH) recently welcomed a delegation from Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University (PMU), Saudi Arabia, for a three-day programme in Malmö and Copenhagen focused on healthcare development, innovation and international knowledge exchange.
Taking place on 22–24 September 2026, the visit brought together representatives from academia, healthcare, the public sector and industry across the Öresund region. The programme provided the delegation with opportunities to learn more about Nordic healthcare systems, hospital development, medical research and education, as well as technologies and solutions relevant to the development of future healthcare infrastructure.
The PMU delegation, led by Dr. Issa Al-Ansari, President of Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University, visited the Öresund region as part of the university's ongoing development of a new College of Medicine and University Teaching Hospital in Saudi Arabia.
Day 1 – Healthcare innovation and industry exchange in Malmö
The three-day programme began at Medeon Science Park in Malmö, where NCSH welcomed the delegation for meetings and an introduction to the region's healthcare and life science ecosystem.
An industry showcase gave selected companies from the NCSH network an opportunity to present solutions and technologies with potential relevance to future healthcare environments.
Representatives from Paxxo, Chromaviso and MedicSolution Nordic presented their work to the delegation, followed by discussions and opportunities for questions and exchange. The session provided a direct meeting point between the university delegation and companies working with healthcare technologies and solutions in the Nordic market.
The programme at Medeon concluded with a networking lunch, allowing the discussions to continue in a more informal setting and opening opportunities for further dialogue and potential future collaboration.
Day 2 – Hospital development, healthcare expertise and academia in Skåne
The second day continued with a broader introduction to healthcare development in southern Sweden.
The programme included meetings with Skåne Care and Lund University's Faculty of Medicine, providing perspectives on healthcare expertise, medical education and the connection between academia and healthcare.
The delegation also visited the new hospital facilities at Skåne University Hospital in Malmö. The visit offered an opportunity to see parts of a major contemporary hospital environment first-hand and to learn more about the infrastructure and systems supporting modern healthcare delivery.
The programme provided an important complement to the first day's industry-focused discussions, broadening the exchange to include healthcare organisations and academia.
Day 3 – Healthcare and university perspectives in Copenhagen
On the third and final day, the programme moved across the Öresund to Copenhagen.
The Danish programme introduced the delegation to further perspectives on the organisation and development of healthcare in the Nordic region. Meetings included representatives from Danish Regions as well as academic and hospital environments in Copenhagen.
The delegation visited the University of Copenhagen and its health and medical sciences environment, providing another opportunity for exchange around medical education, research and the relationship between universities and healthcare systems.
The Copenhagen programme also included a visit to Rigshospitalet, one of Denmark's major university hospitals. Together, the meetings and site visits provided additional perspectives on healthcare organisation, hospital environments and the interaction between clinical practice, research and education.
Building connections across the Öresund region
Across the three days, the programme brought together perspectives from Sweden and Denmark and from healthcare, academia, industry and the public sector.
For NCSH, international visits of this kind provide an important opportunity to connect Nordic knowledge and experience with healthcare developments taking place internationally. They also create a platform for organisations within the NCSH network to establish new relationships and explore opportunities for continued knowledge exchange and collaboration.
NCSH would like to thank Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University and all participating organisations, speakers, hosts and companies for contributing to the three-day programme and for the constructive discussions throughout the visit.
We look forward to continuing the dialogue and exploring opportunities for future collaboration.
